(A horticulturist seated at a table in a garden, supervising the planting of tulip bulbs). (A young man offering a basket of tulips to a horticulturist, seated at his table in the garden with a tulip book).
Two drawings, black chalk, grey wash, heigthened w. white, pen and brown ink, 25,4 x 34,7 cm., both with "52" in pencil, ±1640, unif. framed. - ON VERSO: two allegorical scenes (a young woman crowned and father Time attacking a man) and an allegorical composition with the Dutch Maiden resp.
= Two pendant drawings, perhaps studies for a double portrait. Provenance: French private collection, Moatti Fine Arts (Paris); art gallery Haboldt & Co. (Paris/ New York), Belgian private collection. In the style of Gerard van Honthorst (cf. the drawing Allegorical Portrait of the Four Eldest Children of the King and Queen of Bohemia in the J.
