79/4506 [Cartes-de-visite and cabinet photographs. Royalty]. Lot of 46 cartes-de-visite, all 19th cent., almost all members of European royal families, mostly identified in pencil, i.a. Willem III (2x), Prince Alexander van Oranje-Nassau (2x), Sophie Queen of the Netherlands (3x), Frederik Prince of the Netherlands, Louise Princess of Prussia, Hendrik Prince of the Netherlands, Anna Paulowna Queen of the Netherlands (2x), Prince Willem Nicolaas (2x), Wilhelm V Prince zu Wied, Prince Hendrik Governor of Luxemburg, King Edward VII, and several members of noble families as well as a few unidentified people, together in a 19th cent. obl. blindst. mor. album w. 1 brass clasp and catch (of 2), a.e.g.

- Lacks a few photographs and lacks 1 clasp and catch; a few of the early cartes-de-visite are photographs of painted portraits.

= Interesting album, not in the least because of an apparent link with the 19th cent. explorer Alexandrine Tinne. Two empty leaves have a caption in pencil of "freule Tinne" and "Freule Tinne en Moeder". Besides, the album contains a few loosely inserted (newspaper) clippings and a typescript letter, all dating from approx. 1969 and concerning the commemorative exhibition on Alexandrine Tinne held at the Municipal Archive of The Hague in 1969. The typescript letter was written by mr. Haye Mensonides, the municipal archivist of The Hague from 1953-1977, and is addressed to Mrs P.E. Littooy-Beck. In it he thanks her for the permission to use her portrait album for the exhibition. It is not clear what has happened to the two Tinne cartes-de-visite that are absent from the album.
