Binding worn w. backstrip and boardedges (partly) pasted over w. marbled paper.

= The extremely rare first edition of the Dutch translation, w. parallel French text. Buisman 1784; Buijnsters, BNK 1567: "Buisman onderstelde op grond van de 1745 gedateerde titelprent ten onrechte nog een oudere Ndl. vertaling".

ADDED: a COMPLETE set of the frontisp. and plates by S. FOKKE, each approx. 12x7 cm., the frontisp. titled and "S. Fokke fec. 1745" in the plate, all other plates (but one) "S. Fokke f(e)." in the plate, together tipped onto 1 mount. - AND 2 engr. portraits of S. FOKKE: F.M. 1690 (proof before letters on large paper, by J. HOUBRAKEN after H. POTHOVEN) and F.M. 1693 (self-portrait?).
