78/2448 [Literature]. Bodenstedt, F. von (1819-1892). AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED "F. Bodenstedt", to "Lieber Frau [unidentified], dated "Meiningen, 17. Decbr 72.", pen and ink, 1 leaf, recto and verso.

= Friedrich von Bodenstedt, author of i.a. the succesful collection of poems Die Lieder des Mirza Schaffy (1851), translator of various Russian and English works and finally director of the court theatre at Meiningen. The present letter difficult to read, but begins with mentioning that the day before writing he had buried his mother, who had died at the age of 86 years. Provenance (as stated on the printed folding leaf in which the letter is kept: "Autografensammlung von Amy Twiss". Amy Twiss (1860-1947) was married to A.L. Grothe and lived in "Villa Corvin", one of the main mansions of Hilversum (demolished in 1987). Amy Twiss founded the first Dutch open-air theater on the country estate in 1904. The three following autographs of this lot have the same provenance and are kept in an identical folding leaf.
