76 4505 Veen D van 19th cent
76/4505 Veen, D. van (19th cent.). (Portrait of a gentleman). (Portrait of an elderly lady). Two portraits in black crayon on stiff paper, so-called "Portretvergrootingen" (enlarged portraits), both 38x27 cm., 1x signed "J. WITKAMP", both under passepartout and both with letterpress address ticket mouted on verso reading "Portretvergrootingen in Crayon D. van Veen, Tuinlaantje 16 rood, Haalem".

- First portrait trifle foxed.

= Two crayon drawings strikingly mimicking real photographs, the first portrait an enlargement of a photogr. portrait made around 1850, the second of a photograph made towards the end of the 19th cent. D. van Veen, on whom nothing could be traced, succeeded in making his drawings look like they were real photographs. It is not certain whether the "J. Witkamp" on the first portrait is the name of the sitter or of an artist working with D. van Veen.
