After having performed this duty he was ordered to proceed across the Pacific Ocean to the East Indies and thence back home. This was the first French expedition to sail around the world... The expedition visited the Island of Tahiti, which was annexed for France and called La Nouvelle Cythere... Several other South Sea islands were also visited (...)".
