- Majority of leaves w. professional restorations and foxing (occas. sl. browning) in upper margin, affecting notes and staves of the upper three lines; title-p. also w. professionally restored tears in upper margin and foxed/ browned; occas. stains in upper blank margin.
= Unidentified vague old signature on title-p. Kinsky p.239f: "Originalausgabe der Partitur (Oktober 1812) (...) Bei späteren Abzügen ist die Rückseite des Titelblatts freigelassen und die Anmerkung am Schlüsse der Partitur abgedruckt." Compared to the copy of the first edition listed by the Beethoven Haus, our copy has some (typographical) differences, the most important being that the "Anmerkung" is printed on the verso of the title-p. (contrary to the copy of the Beethoven Haus copies, in which it is printed on the verso of the final leaf), and with some other small differences: our copy without the larger first capitals of the words "Erster Hymnus", "Zweiter Hymnus" and "Dritter Hymnus"; another difference is the spelling of "Zweiter" instead of "Zweyter" in the title to the second hymn. A very rare and early variant (not traced by us). SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE LV.
