= A rare large-paper copy of the first folio-edition of this work. Ronsil 844; Nissen, IVB 239; Martin Sale 71; Zimmer p.168: "The plates are very finely executed. (...) The work forms a supplement to Buffon's "Histoire naturelle des oiseaux" (...) and the "Nouveaux Recueil de Planches Coloriées" of Temminck and Laugier (...)." The majority of the plates are by P. Oudart, and were also coloured by him. He was the first artist to reproduce his natural history paintings in lithography and publish his own plate books. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE CII.
