- Old owner's entries in pen and ink on title-p. and both pastedowns; illegible stamp on verso of title-p.; num. old annotations in pen and ink and in red pencil in margins. Lacks first free endpaper. Frontcover browned section in left half. A good/ fine copy in an interesting binding.
= Fine provenance: the owner's entry on the title-page is that of "Erasmus Schmidt Delitiamus" (Erasmus Schmidt of Delitsch, 1570-1637), the German philologist, who eventually became professor of Greek at the university of Wittenberg. The entry on the upper pastedown is probably also in the hand of Erasmus Schmidt and reads: "Emtus[?] à Vidua M. Joh. Grunii Wrtebergae Ao 1597.13 Julij". This possibly solves the question about whose monogram is stamped on the binding in the small portraits: "I.G.". Joh. Grunius is mentioned once as editor of "Commentar. in epistolas 2 ad Timotheum; librum de anima welches M. Joh. Grunius 1580 per diagrammara digestum ediret" (Allgemeines Gelehrten-Lexicon, p.389 under the entry on Melanchton). Adams A-1314; Hoffmann I, 206; Schweiger p.38; Dibdin p.274f.
