He began to take part in the work, though at an early stage he disassociated himself from Caviglia. (...) The first part of the book describes a journey to Upper Egypt made in November 1836. The interesting appendix in vol. II contains exerpts from the works of travellers to Egypt and forms a curious sort of bibliography." "'His researches and those of Perring were of great importance in elucidating the early history of Egypt.'" (Blackmer Sale citing Dictionary of National Biography).
