Two of the ships were captured by the Dutch, but the third, piloted by Tellier, arrived back at Le Havre on 1.12.22." (Howgego B54). The first and only Dutch edition.
- A few leaves w. sm. tear(s) in margin(s); second half (sl.) waterstained in right half; later endpapers; bookplate on upper pastedown.
= The second and best edition, first published 1638. This edition enlarged with the poetry written in 1638 and 1639. Scheepers I, 82; cf. Meertens, Letterkundig leven in Zeeland p.299-306.

= Darlow/ Moule 1604 and 4557. Rare first ed. of the Gospels in Gothic, based on a contemp. transcript of the famous 6th-cent. Codex Argenteus (then in the possession of Isaac Vossius, now in the Uppsala Univ. Libr.), printed parallel with the Old English text and with notes in Latin, Hebrew and Greek. = With extensive family history on blank and endpapers, dated between 1686 and 1796. Very rare Biestkens bible (one copy traced: Amsterdam UB: O 65-1823, with a letterpress general title dated 1612). Our copy possibly lacks this letterpress general title (the engr. general title comes with the publisher's name and is dated "1614" (later inserted?); the title-p. to the New Testament mentions no place and no publisher and is dated 1612. - Engr. title foxed; lacks htitle; receding waterstain in first 6 quires; occas. sl. waterstaining. Leather dried.
= The so called Leuvense Nieuwe Testament. This is the edition with 962 pages printed for the "Roomsgezinden". Poortman I, p.134f; Le Long p.632ff; De Backer/ Sommervogel II, p.1533,39. "Dit Nieuwe Testament is merkwaardig, omdat het is opgedragen aan de Staten van Holland en Zeeland" (Poortman). Rare.
- Lacks 7 maps; 1 map lacks right half; the maps (incl. the worldmap) and num. lvs. w. restored margins; partly dam./ mouldy and w. wine stain at the end. Rebound in a sl. larger sized binding; lacks clasps and catches and 2 cornerpieces; spine restored w. use of part of contemp. backstrip. Sold w.a.f.
= With the unusual worldmap by R. DE HOOGHE depicting a hemisphere with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden (margins dam.) (Poortman/ Augusteijn 148).
- Lacks 4 maps; worldmap sl. waterst. in upper blank margin. Upper joint splitting; lacks brass clasps and 1 catch.

= Zischka p.31, listing the original French edition published in 1722-1728; Poortman II, p.169-171: "Calmet's Naam- en Woordboek is geen prentbijbel maar een woordenboek met prenten. Het zijn geen prenten die de bijbelse geschiedenis afbeelden, maar de zeden en gewoonten der Joden, de godsdienstplechtigheden, de tabernakel, de tempels enz." The plates illustrate the history and culture of the Jews: ceremonies, costumes, plans and views of synagogues and other buildings, views of Jerusalem etc.
