Sabin 1614: "This most valuable record and chronicle of historical and political events for over a hundred years contains accurate accounts of the Revolutionary War, as well as of the revolutions in South America, the Second War with Great Britain, and many other American subjects".

This expedition of the Racehorse and Carcass, undertaken for the purpose of discovering a route to India through the northern polar regions, was blocked by pack ice north of Spitsbergen. The valuable appendix gives geographical and meteorological observations, zoological and botanical records, accounts of the destillation of fresh water from the sea, and astronomical observations. The voyage is perhaps best remembered for the presence of young Horatio Nelson, as midshipman aboard the Carcass, and his encounter with a polar bear", Henze IV, p.105f: "(...) Dagegen leitete Phipps die wissenschaftliche Erforschung des hohen Nordarchipels ein durch systematische hydrographisch-physikalische Messungen. = The legend, which takes place in 14th century Brussels, tells of the miraculous return of sacred hosts after they were stolen from the church by a group of Jewish people. Six Jewish people were sentenced to death for the "killing" of the sacred hosts. Several variant collations traced.

= Tiele 795; Howgego N24; cf. Graesse IV, 674; Cox I, 237; Aboussouan 682-683 and Lipperheide Lc6. Carsten Niebuhr (1733-1815) travelled extensively in Arabia, Persia, Palestine and Asia Minor. By his descriptions and maps and the richness of his observations the pioneer of a more profound knowledge of the Orient. Henze III, p.610: "Als erste literarische Hauptfrucht der langen Reise veröffentlichte er in 1772 die Beschreibung von Arabien, ein Werk klassischen Gepräges, das mehr Stoff darbrachte als alle früheren europäischen Werke zusammengenommen; hinzu kam, daß es großenteils auf Autopsie basierte. N. hielt sich fern von jeder Kompilation nach anderen Autoren und trug nur vor, was er selbst beobachtet und gesammelt hatte".
