SAMAMA, Nederlandse muziek in de 20-ste eeuw: Voorspel tot een nieuwe dag (Amsterdam, 2015), p.107: "In 1926 kreeg de Federatie van Nederlande Toonkunstenaars-Verenigingen een eigen orgaan, De Muziek, onder redactie van Willem Pijper en Paul F. Sanders. Gedurende zeven seizoenen, tot 1922/33, is De Muziek een toonbeeld van muziekjournalistiek geweest, niet in de laatste plaats door de boeiende bijdragen van de beide hoofdredacteuren, maar ook door een keur van nationale en internationale medewerkers. Daartegenover was het aloude Caecilia in deze jaren tot een muzikaal streekblad verworden, met verslagen over rijp en groen, door redacteuren en medewerkers die veel eerbied voor de eenvoudige muzikant betoonden en daarbij stevig vasthielden aan negentiende-eeuwse waarden. Het muziekleven werd door De verenigde tijdschriften Caecilia en Het Muziekcollege (algemeen toonkunstenaarsblad voor Groot Nederland), zoals de officiële naam sinds de fusie met Het Muziekcollege in 1917 luidde, inderdaad op de voet gevolgd, maar dat muziekleven speelde zich af in de contreien van Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, Mahler, Richard Strauss, Johann Strauss en Léhar. En het was juist een dergelijk muziekleven waar de redacteuren van De Muziek niet van gediend waren. De Muziek echter niet, achteraf bezien gelukkig, waardoor over en weer spanningen en wrijvingen ontstonden. Toen De Muziek in 1933 een negatief artikel over Brahms publiceerde, een Duitse kleinburger, met zijn geborneerdheid, gemakzucht en enge moraal, besloot de federatie het blad af te stoten. De Muziek verscheen daarna nota bene in combinatie met Caecilia. Willem Pijper en Paul Sanders verlieten de redactie".
