Account of the events leading to and the early decades of the Eighty Years' War with famous views by Franz Hogenberg of towns (in The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany), battles, sea battles, sieges, executions, tournaments, assemblies. Comprising i.a. "Amstelredam", "Grave", "Oudewater", "Zu Delft in Hollant", "Mechelen", "Das Rhathauss in Antorff", "Wie Steenweick, so eine Zeit langk belegert, entsatzt ist worden", "Burg", "Traiectum ad Mosam. Mastricht" and "Sutphen". Rare.

- Thin spot in lower blank margin; sl. yellowed. Good impression on rather thin, laid paper.

- All cut short w. loss of image; various corners chipped or damaged; three prints waterstained. Sold w.a.f.
= (Very) rare. Part of a set of 20 prints depicting the Acts of the Apostles. The print collection of Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden holds a numbered set, contrary to the prints above, which suggest that these engravings are a first or earlier state. Hollstein XIII, p.36, 8 (The Ascension of Christ) and probably Hollstein 3 (Liberation of St. Peter) are part of the series; Nagler 2882. GDW is identified as a print artist from Brussels. There is also a slight possibility that the monogram stands for Giovanni da Udine (who was part of Raphael's workshop).
- A few shallow creases/ wrinkles; margins sl. dustsoiled.
= Very dark impression. On laid paper with "van der Ley" watermark. Very rare mezzotint.
- Closed tear in lower margin (touching caption)

- Venus trimmed just inside the image; formerly mounted and w. a few chips/ small tears and old vertical fold. Other engravings in fine condition w. ample (sl. dustsoiled/ foxed) margins, all w. vague annots. in brown pen and ink in upper blank margin.
