= At the end the famous treatise "Een eenvoudige, dog duidelyke verklaaring over de zo genaamde onverslaanbare parnasdreun te bruilofte &c. door den autheur zelver opgestelt, alleen uit liefde en zugt voor de onbedreeve poëten en dozynwerkers van zyn gelukkig vaderland". "In het werk dat zoveel weerstand heeft opgeroepen verwerpt Van Sw. het polijsten van verzen en de onderworpenheid aan regels, principes (...). Daartegenover stelt hij inspiratie en extase. Zijn overtuiging wordt gemotiveerd door de hermetische filosofie op naam van Hermes Trismegistos, waarin lijdzame overgave en extatische terugkeer naar de goddelijke harmonie kernthema's zijn. Het unieke satirisch-hermetische werk van Van Swaanenburg dient men te beschouwen tegen de 18de-eeuwse achtergrond van deze filosofie" (Moderne Encycl. van de Wereldliteratuur IX, p.198).

= Interesting booklet, on the prophecies of the Emperors Severus and Leo concerning the imminent demise of the Ottoman empire. The 16 engravings show i.a. (mythical) animals, angels as well as more symbolic images, and is accompanied by one to four epigrammata and a more lengthy explanation of these epigramatta. Knuttel 3725; Cf. Waller 1389 (1st ed., Amst., 1627). Not in the emblemata reference works.

= First Dutch translation. Very rare, only 1 complete copy in STCN. Cf. Atabey 829 (listing the ed. London, 1767); Blackmer 1150 (listing the ed. Dublin, 1765); Robinson p.32f. Not in Blackmer Sale. "Lady Mary Wortley Montagu's husband was appointed ambassador to the Porte in 1716, and she accompanied him to Constantinople. During her sojourn in Turkey she recorded her observations and experiences in a journal (destroyed after her death) which provided material for her actual letters to her friends (...). These are not actual letters, though headed and dated close to the dates of real letters. The form is partly fiction but provides the substance of her life abroad and her opinions on Turkish life and customs". (Blackmer).
