5323 - 5456 FINE ARTS - DUTCH TOPOGRAPHY. MAPS, PLANS and VIEWS
= I.a. engraved views of Alkmaar (i.a. from C. VAN DER WOUDE, Kronyck van Alckmaar); views of Vlaardingen, Wormer and Doesburg (engr. plan from BLAEU, Townbooks, ±1650).
- Yellowed; w. tiny (closed) burned pinhole in centre. = Interesting and rare map.
= The fine title-cartouche shows the coats of arms of the seven provinces, Neptune sitting on a seamonster, other figures and an oriental woman with a lion and a crocodile. Van der Heijden/ Blonk 71, 4th state.
- Partly waterst. in upper blank margin; occas. sl. dustsoiled and trifle frayed, mainly in blank fore-edge margin. Dogeared; wr. loose and frayed.
= Impressive and very rare wallmap, the inset maps showing i.a. the Dutch colonies in the far East, Caribbean and South America and Africa, and with surrounding tables with statistical and historical information. The large compass rose also gives the position and distance between Brussels and some major cities in Europe. An overview of all this is to be found on the "Tableau indicateur", which also bears three differently coloured manuscript borderlines of the Netherlands with the Kingdom of Hannover, Prussia, and France. Koeman, Handleiding, r6; Koeman, Geschiedenis, p.190: "Van de Franse meester-graveur J.B. de Bouge (...) verscheen in 1823 een kopie van de Krayenhoff-kaart [Choro-Topographische Kaart] op dezelfde schaal [1:115.200], maar op een handiger bladformaat: 20 bladen, elk 53 x 42 cm." A second edition of 1828 is not mentioned by Koeman.
- Trifle waterst. in blank margins, just touching the image on the left; sl. wormholed in left blank margin.
= Blonk-Van der Wijst 37.1: "Dit kaartje behoort tot het Caertboeck van Abraham Goos. De kaartjes van Goos zijn uniek door de vormgeving, het liggende ovaal in een fraai versierd rechthoekig kader. (...) Goos heeft voor het ontwerpen van dit kaartje vermoedelijk gebruik gemaakt van de foliokaart Comitatus Hollandia van Willem Jansz. [Blaeu]".
- Sl. yellowed.

- Lower end of middle fold. strengthened on verso. Otherwise fine.

- Folded; a few tiny tears on folds.
= This rare map, under the direction of head of the bureau of air defence J.H. van Riesen, shows i.a. various aerodromes, emergency landing areas and estimated flight speeds.
- False creases and browned along (closed) central fold; sm. closed hole to the right of the compass; a few sm. restorations in lower margin, partly into the border.
= Van der Heijden 88, 4th and final state: "De kaart steunt duidelijk op die van Kaerius van 1617. Het graveerwerk is waarschijnlijk verricht in het atelier van Jodocus Hondius, hetzij in London (hij werkte tot 1593 in London en genoot daar met Kaerius grote bekendheid) hetzij in Amsterdam na 1593." With profiles of Amsterdam, Antwerp, Atrecht, Ghent, Groningen, Middelburg, Utrecht and Zutphen and costumes of "A Gentleman", "A Brabander", "A Hollander", "A Fisher Man" and "A Contreyman" and their female counterparts. - Some offsetting from former folding.
- Central and horizontal fold entirely strengthened on verso; sm. dam/ spot in top margin, just affecting the engr. border (restored w. manuscript addition); a few sm. closed tears in borders.

- Traces of (former) doubling; several closed tears (partly on old folds); title-cartouce and distance scale badly stained/ soiled; margins sl. creased.
