= Rare publication on the art of swimming, examining the sport from a historical and practical point of view. Warranted by the author on verso title.
- Library stamp on title-p.; final index leaf almost entirely torn out.
= Remarkable plates. The priest who wrote the poems to the thoughts and images of heaven and hell is Adriaen Poirters.
- Spine-ends worn (1x repaired). Otherwise a fine set.
= From the library of M. Buisman, with his owner's entry on all first free endpapers. First Dutch translation. Incl. the black printed page and the marbled leaf (recto and verso). Vol. 5 also contains "Sentimentele Reis van den Heere Yorick". Waller 1613; De Vries 244; Buisman 2186; Scheepers II, 584. Not in Muller.
- Old library markings in pen and ink on first free endpaper and title 1st vol.; plates trifle foxed; a few plates w. repaired (marginal) tears. First vol. joints rubbed/ starting.

= Interesting booklet, on the prophecies of the Emperors Severus and Leo concerning the imminent demise of the Ottoman empire. The 16 engravings show i.a. (mythical) animals, angels as well as more symbolic images, and is accompanied by one to four epigrammata and a more lengthy explanation of these epigramatta. Knuttel 3725; Cf. Waller 1389 (1st ed., Amst., 1627). Not in the emblemata reference works.
- Very fine copy. = Provenance: Bob Luza. Tiele 921; Scheepers I, 656. Rare.
- Without vol. 2; a few quires yellowed/ browned; partly foxed; plates not affected.
- Occas. (sl.) foxed/ yellowed; final ±55 leaves at the end of vol.2 w. receding stain from glue used by binder to attach calf turn-ins to backcover. Otherwise a fine copy.
= Contains attractive folding profiles of Amersfoort, Montfoort, Utrecht, Rhenen and surroundings and Wijk bij Duurstede.

- A few prints (sl.) foxed in blank margins; the view of Montfoort has a sm. ruststain in the sky area; title-p. and the view of Wyck by Duerstede have an extended blank outer margin. Otherwise all views fine.
= All but 8 of the views have the name of Casper Specht engraved in lower margin. Very rare complete series, of which the first edition, printed in 1698, consisted of 32 prints, each w. a banderole in the top margin identifying the house; a second edition was published by I. Ottens around 1700, and contained another 11 prints (partly also with a banderole above the house). Our copy was the third and most extensive edition w. 40 plates (incl. the title-p.). The only etching listed in Hollstein as etched by Specht is the one that show the house Plettenburg at Jutphaes. See Hollstein, Specht 1, 1st state (of 2). The collector's(?) mark on the frontcover of the album not traced in Lugt.
- Engr. title sm. tear/ creases into blank margin; occas. a few foxed spots. Vellum sl. fingersoiled along margins. An unusually fine copy.
= Provenance: "Hk Meijer 1769" (owner's entry on verso first free endpaper). "(...) M.b.t. de reconstructie van de drukgeschiedenis van de Belacchende Werelt komt men tot enkele belangrijke vaststellingen. Kennelijk werden er tijdens het drukproces van de bundel herhaaldelijk wijzigingen in het zetsel aangebracht: het totale aantal getraceerde varianten is zowel in kwantitatief als kwalitatief opzicht aanzienlijk (...)" Very fine engravings, i.a. depicting a quacksalver; the engraved title shows a lively scene at the fair at The Hague. One of the finest and most curious (and humorous) Dutch 17th cent. illustrated books. One of the finest old sources on the Dutch East Indies.
