Quérard, La France littéraire V, p.226: "Ce n'est point une fiction, mais l'histoire singulière d'un capitaine de flibustiers, qui fut tué à Tours, par des Anglais, en 1731, rédigé d'après les mémoires fournis par sa veuve." Rare.

Rare Utrecht edition of this nicely illustrated and rather naughty picaresque novel on the adventures of the unhappy Italian Lucio Rozelli, who was born in Naples and made his way through Europe to end up in the Northern Netherlands, where he ran a coffee house in Utrecht. = Scheepers I, 552: "Bestrijding der gruwelen den zoogenaamden heksen aangedaan, waarvan vreeselijke voorbeelden worden aangehaald." Bibl. Med. Neerl. I, p.150; cf. Muller 539 and Waller 1315 (both ed. 1725). Extremely rare first edition on witchcraft, sorcery, demonology and black magic, in which the author expresses and illustrates with awful examples his discontent with the atrocities committed against presumed witches. With a remarkable woodcut title-vignette showing a witch escaping from a house through the chimney, with her legs dangling from the chimney opening inside the house while she is also seen lifting off full-length from the chimney outside with her broom. Provenance: Bob Luza.

= One of the few Dutch books on wine - and a beautiful edition to that with remarkable anonymous engravings in the style of Adriaen van de Venne, illustrating the use and abuse of wine.
