= With (autograph?) dedication on first free endpaper: "ten geschenke van: Fr. te Boekhorst, 1838-1840. Strijen, 17 April 1861." Attractive compendium of useful/ required knowledge. The manuscript covers the following subjects: History (i.e. biblical history up to ±1818); natural history; geography; linguistics; arithmetics, paedagogics and education; psychology. The works end w. 2 pages on the Basque people ("Een der merkwaardigste volksstammen, die het tegenwoordige Europa bewonen, zijn de zoogenaamde Basken, of Vasken").

= Two powers of attorney, the first given by Vicente Hernández(?) in Villa de Oropesa on behalf of Gaspar Rodríguez, signed 22(?) October 1584 by notary(?) Perez, clerk Navarrete and Antonio de Cea in the presence of Hernando Márquez and Bernaldo Nieto; the 2nd signed by Perez and Andres de Estrada. The city of Villa de Oropeza (present-day Cochabamba, Bolivia) was founded in 1571. The second leaf contains an unidentified watermark depicting a pilgrim, probably Italian/ French, 2nd half 16th cent. Cf. Briquet II, 7567-7603.

= The final 2 leaves contain several drawings of vases, fruit baskets and monuments in black crayon. The calligraphed leaves show various types of script, some leaves contain sheetmusic and others are practical writing excercises for i.a. "Meetkunstige Werkstukken", "Additions-Beispiel", "Koopmans rekenkunst", "Kort Overzigt der algemeene Balans voorstellende van alle Rekeningen van een Grootboek met dubbele Posten" and "Tableau het welk (...) het Dubbel of Italiaansch Boekhouden voorstelt (...)". Most numbered leaves are signed and dated in lower margin; some also have sm. corrections on sm. pieces of paper that are pasted over the text and several leaves are marked in red pencil (presumably by the calligraphy teacher).

With loosely inserted (formerly tipped-in) 18th cent. style calligraphy of a bird, dated 1951, by the same. Remmet Jacobus Ouwejan is best known as the author of Zaens skoon (Wormerveer, 1934).

- Very fine.

= Beautiful letter of reference for a gardener who had worked at Schloss Oranienburg for the Prince of Prussia, August Wilhelm von Preußen (brother of Frederic the Great). With small carved ivory box containing a wax seal (unopened). SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE LXIX.

= Very attractive manuscript by Claudius Tardivonus, a 17th cent. calligrapher on whom we could not fine any information. A 17th century transcript of several classical works, i.a. Aristoteles' Rhetorica. Claudius writes: "Epigramma. si qui contingat nostrum reperire libellum. Ecce ubi mea si nomina scirevelis Tardivonus ego cognomine nomine Claudii. Ipse vocor propio si dare seripta cupis. Non invenum sed furtum non reddere credas Nec quodquam furto grandus esse nefas".

= Interesting letter in which Robert Honywood writes on behalf of Elisabeth Stuart, Queen of Bohemia and daughter of King James I, to someone who is close to Charles Louis, Elector Palatine, informing him that Her Majesty has asked him to communicate the contents of a letter that she had received du "Monsr. l'Electeur son filz, laquelle contenante ce qui elle desire fust communiqué a son Excellence elle m'a commandé de m'en charger de la façon. (...) les particularitez sont que la compte de Leicester Ambassadeur Extraorinaire pour sa Majesté en France [i.e. Robert Sidney] eu avait envoyé depuis peu une proposition et offre de ce Roy et du Cardinal de ne vouloir jamais accorder ou faire paix sans la restauration de la maison Palatine a ses honeurs et dignités a condition que sa Majesté vouloit entrer avec luy en ligne offensive et defensive contre les mainons d'Autriche, Espagne et Baviere. A quoy sa Majesté avoit respondu que de faire telle ligne il estoit prest et resolu n'y trouvant rien a redire sinon au lieu de mettre une ligne contre trois princes ainsi specifiees on mettroit en general une ligne pour la Liberté de l'Allemagne en quel cas il avoit envoyé s aon dit Ambassadeur non seulement d'en traitter mais un plein et absolu pouvoir de concluire (...)." The author ends his letter by stating that the Queen would have written he correspondent herself, but that she prefers to wait "pour le temps quand elle peut mander a son Excellence la chose faicte quoi qu'elle desireroit plustost de la luy conter par bouche bientot a La Haye". Elisabeth Stuart was exiled to the Dutch Republic in 1620 and only returned to England in 1661.
