= Albert Kuyle (pseud. of L.M.A. Kuitenbrouwer, 1904-1958), who was known for his fascist sympathies, writes about his departure from publisher Het Spectrum and on participating in a board of editors for a book society to be founded. "(...) Ik dank je voor je hartelijke woorden, doch begrijp niet wel hoe mijn afwezigheid in de bureaux van Het Spectrum een verrassing voor je kon zijn. (...) En nog minder begrijp ik hoe je kunt meenen dat ik mijn staat-van-dienst "zoo makkelijk nonchalant over de schouder" kan werpen. Hoe kon je dit schrijven in het gezicht van een kwestie die mijn heele geestelijke en goeddeels mijn materieele existentie beheerscht? Er is hier inderdaad een staat-van-dienst nonchalant over de schouder geworpen, ja, maar het was mijn schouder niet (...)" [22/04/1941]. "(...) Het eenige wat ik dus nogmaals van je vraag is een beetje extra zorg voor mijn eer en goede naam, nu door zoovelen daar mee wordt omgesprongen als waren dat waardelooze goederen die slechts in de goot op hun plaats zijn.
