The nice illustrations show examples of all kinds of objects, i.a. purses, tobacco-pouches, fashion attributes, flowers, baskets, needlework, cardboard objects, cushions, ring-cords, souvenirs, vases, screens etc. A lot of attention is paid to the techniques involved in making such objects and the fabrication and use of i.a. decorative cloths, paper and paint. "Maar haar [A.B. van Meerten Schilperoort's] grootste roem geldt het tijdschrift voor dames Pénélopé (...). Het verscheen in 8 delen van 1821 tot 1835 bij haar vaste uitgever Beijerinck en is met zijn 192 handgekleurde platen op afstand het fraaiste en kostbaarste Nederlandse periodiek uit de negentiende eeuw. De prijs, honderdtwintig gulden, was er ook naar! Anna Barbera heeft trouwens steeds de hoogste eisen gesteld aan de uitvoering van haar geschriften. = "In 1883 publiceerde D. Henriques de Castro Mz. het grote plaatwerk Keur van grafsteenen (...). Hij behandelde in dit majestueuze boek de mooiste zerken en gaf verklaringen van namen en feiten. (...) De Castro plande nog twee delen van zijn standaardwerk, maar die zijn jammer genoeg nooit verschenen. De Castro ontdekte te Ouderkerk veel meer stenen dan er zichtbaar waren. Veel zerken waren reeds in de vorige eeuw diep weggezakt in de drassige grond. De grafkenner telde zesduizend stenen en kwam tot enkele zeer interessante gevolgtrekkingen van begraafhistorisch belang. Hij publiceerde in zijn boek tevens de volledige begraaflijst van 1616 tot 1630. (...) De namenlijst van De Castro bevat vele beroemdheden en mannen van aanzien. Ook vreemde namen; op 1 januari 1617 werd begraven 'Een kind van Okes Boques'. De Castro voegt aan deze naam een voetnoot toe: 'Onwillekeurig denken wij hierbij aan het bekende hocus-pocus. C. war Vorstandsmitglied der Gemeinde und Präsident des Komitees der portugiesischen Juden in Holland. Er starb am 10. Oktober 1898 in Amsterdam und hinterließ eine bedeutende Büchersammlung, die viele, insbesondere für die Geschichtskunde der Juden in Holland, Spanien und Portugal wichtige Werke, Manuskripte und Urkunden enthielt."
