"The frame to the title and the woodcuts in the text are like those used in W. Vorsterman's Bible of 1542." (Darlow/ Moule). "De theologen aan de hogeschool van Leuven kregen de opdracht van de landsregering een nieuwe Latijnse tekst van de Vulgaat gereed te maken. Nicolaes van Winghe, regulier kanunnik van het Augustijner klooster te Leuven, werd belast met de vertaling van de Vulgaat in het Nederduits, d.w.z. in het Brabants. In de voorrede wijst Nicolaas van Winghe er op, dat er vele valse bijbels vol met fouten waren verschenen, en dat het doel van zijn uitgave was 'valsche en incorrecte Bibelen uytter lieden handen te nemen'. = Le Long p.669; Poortman I, p.102-104. The second Biestkens (Mennonite) bible. The story goes that this bible was printed from silver type on a ship on the North Sea. The printer, however, lived in Emden in a house named "In 't schip op de Noord-See" and referred to his very elegant, small cursive as "silver" type (Le Long: "extra cierlijck klein cursijff lettertjen"). S. Groenveld (a.o.), Wederdopers, menisten, doopsgezinden in Nederland 1530-1980, p.102: "Tot de fraaiste exemplaren daarvan moet nu zonder twijfel de uitgave van 1563 door Lenaert der Kinderen in Emden gerekend worden, een druk die van grote en kunstzinnige vakbekwaamheid getuigenis aflegt." "Op de loonlijsten voor 1561 en 1566 van Plantijn komt bovendien een werknemer Lenaert der Kinderen voor. Ook die heeft echt bestaan. Volgens Valkema Blouw heeft Der Kinderen enige tijd op een drukkerij in Kampen gewerkt, die Hendrik Niclaes had gesticht en waarvan Christoffel Plantijn medeëigenaar was. Uit de toegepaste lettertypen blijkt dat hij over materiaal van de Antwerpse uitgever beschikte. (...) De tolerante houding van de magistraat in deze stad maakte het mogelijk, dat hier publicaties het licht zagen die elders onmiddellijk tot activiteit van de justitie geleid zouden hebben. Om moeilijkheden voor zichzelf te voorkomen liet Plantijn de naam van zijn werknemer op het titelblad plaatsen. (...) Onder de naam Lenaert der Kinderen bezorgde Willem Geylliaert in 1563 te Embden een volgende editie. Althans, zo dacht Wijnman over de bijbel van Lenaert der Kinderen uit 1563 met het drukkersmerk van de lelie onder de doornen, zinnebeeld van de gemeente onder het kruis. De bijbel behoort echter waarschijnlijk tot de produktie van de drukkerij van Plantijn en Niclaes in Kampen, evenals het nieuwe testament van Der Kinderen uit 1562/ 1563. (...) De kanttekeningen zijn uitgebreider dan in de Biestkensbijbel van 1560. Toen beperkten die zich tot verwijzingen naar teksten in andere schriftgedeelten. Nu waren er ook noten in de marge die de lezer in staat moesten stellen een door hem gezochte perikoop of passage op te zoeken, dan wel de inhoud hiervan toelichtten."
