"(...) sinds de zestiende eeuw bekende trekprenten met 16 (soms ook met 32) afbeeldingen van allerlei personages, van koning tot zot. Deze figuren (de eigenlijke 'briefjes') werden uitgeknipt en gebruikt bij het koning-trekken op het Driekoningenfeest, dertien dagen na Kerstmis.
