69/5402 Anonymous (early 19th cent.). The tribute money. Oil on canvas after TITIAN, 85x106 cm., stretched by hand on a wooden stretcher.

- Nine canvas patches on verso strengthen damages to the canvas, partly visible on recto; a few sm. holes/ tears in canvas (mainly) near lower left corner and upper edge; varnish soiled. Deserving a restoration.

= The right part of the painting where Christ receives a coin from a Pharisee, is copied from the famous painting by Titian (1516). The left part is quite skillfully added by the painter. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE CVI.

- Several brown stains in the foreground.

- All leaves doubled in order to strengthen/ close sm. dam./ thin spots.

= Intriguing set of drawings, probably showing the garden of an estate in the west of Holland, where bird catching on a so-called Vinkenbaan (a range for bird-catching) was a popular pastime in the 18th and 19th centuries. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE CVI.
