Scheffer, A. (1795-1858) (attrib.). (Study of a standing woman and of the heads of a man and a woman). Drawing, pencil and some lightbrown wash, 7,1x20,2 cm.
= Unidentified collector's mark on recto (Lugt 521a) and collector's mark of J.Q. van Regteren Altena on verso (Lugt 4617).
- Outer blank margins strengthened w. paper tape and Japanese on verso.
- Laid down on board.
= With numerous annots. by the artists on the colours of various details.
= Josef Freiherr von Doblhoff (1844-1928), writer, diplomat and explorer. His travel account Tagebuchblätter von einer Reise nach Ostasien, illustrated by Julius von Blaas was published 1874-1875. In 1881 a revised edition was published under the title Von den Pyramiden zum Niagara. Eine Reise um die Erde, which i.a. contained illustrations after drawings by Von Doblhoff.
- Tipped onto contemp. limp mount; trifle foxed.
= "A. Dona" in pencil on verso and "A.F. Dona" in pencil on mount, in the same old hand.
Sierich, L.C. Jr. (1834-1919). (Nighttime river landscape). Oval drawing, grey and brown wash, 3x6,3 cm., on paper with elaborately embossed margins, 5x8,5 cm., signed "L.C. Sierich Jr. Fecet 1854" on verso in pen and grey/ brown ink.
- Horizontal whitish line/ fold along upper margin; a few vague creases.
Westerwoudt, J. (1849-1906). "Angenstein, en Suisse." Drawing, pencil and grey wash, 22,9x29 cm., signed "J Westerwoudt. Mars 1865" and titled in brown pen on verso.
= Skillfully drawn.
- Sl. yellowed.
= Nice figure study, also showing a detail sketch of the woman's arms holding the child, and with another sketch by the same on verso.
Shepperson, C.A. (1867-1921). (A young girl holding a kitten with her mother looking at her). Drawing, pen and ink, 18x26 cm., signed "Shepperson".
- Laid down on mount.
= With pencil annots. below on the mount, quoting the original caption and identifying the place and date of publication of the drawing: "Mother (to little girl engaged in grooming -with a stiff brush- a newly born kitten): "Oh! Maisie, I don't think that the Mummy cat would like to see you doing it that way". Maisie: "Well Mummy - I couldn't lick it". Punch 28 Jun 1916/ Vol CL p.421".
- Some sm. foxed spots/ stains, 1x worse.
= Nice collection with detailed drawings of plants, trees and a view of a churchtower. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE CXIII.
AND a brush and black ink drawing "Bloemendaal" possibly by the same.
- Small tear in upper margin; remnants of mounting on verso along upper margin.
= Possibly by Eelke Jelles Eelkema (1788-1839).
= Intriguing drawing with contemporary identification in Dutch in the same hand in pen on verso and vaguely in pencil on recto: "achter stadt huys t amsterdam", but the image appears to be a view in an Italian town. With manuscript collector's mark in red on verso: "E.B. No.24" (Lugt 4163 ("non identifiée")).
= Intriguing drawing with contemporary identification in Dutch in the same hand in pen on verso and vaguely in pencil on recto: "[...] Amsterdam achter het out stadt huys", but the image appears to be a view in an Italian town. With manuscript collector's mark in red on verso: "E.B. No. 33" (Lugt 4163 ("non identifiée")).
