= Interesting and extremely rare work written by the elusive Gregor Faber (born around 1520 in Lutzen): no copy found in JAP 1990-2017, no copy in ABPC and no copy offered on the net. RISM, Écrits imprimés concernant la musique vol. I, p.301; Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart III, p.1684: "Während seiner Tübinger Jahre war er "Musices Professor ordinarius" an der Univ. (...). Der Traktat Gregor Fabers, dessen Bedeutung bisher noch nicht untersucht worden ist, gehört nicht zu den vielen Schriften für den Musikunterricht an den prot. Lateinschulen. (...) Das erste Buch ist ganz der Elementen der Musik, das zweite nur den Mensurgesetzen gewidmet. Wie er aber auch bei der Lehre von den Claves, Voces, Intervalla etc. immer an fortgeschrittene Jünglinge denkt (er spricht stets von "adolescentes", nie von "pueri"), so sind auch sein Beispiele so anspruchsvoll ausgewählt, daß man geneigt ist, in dem ganzen Traktat den schriftlichen Niederschlag seiner Tübinger Vorlesungen zu sehen. Unter den Beispielen finden sich zwar auch einige typische "exempla" wie die beiden aus Sebald Heydens Traktat von 1537 entnommenen und einigen von ungenannten Komp.; Faber druckt aber z.B. auch das ganze Stabat Mater von Josquin ab, bringt 3st. Christe von Obrecht (aus dessen Missa super "Sub tuum praesidium"), ein 3st Kyrie und ein 3st. textloses Exemplum von Stoltzer, ein 2st. Benedictus von Brumel, ein 7st. anon.
