= Rare. A sumptuous work in which for the first time Greek ceramics were depicted life size in very decorative prints. Albert Genick (1836-1906), German architect and later artist who resided in Rome after his retirement, was especially known for his watercolours with Roman and Greek antiquity as subject. Adolf Furtwängler (1853-1907) was a German archaeologist who specialized in Greek ceramics and sculpture. His main achievement was the dating and attributing of Greek ceramics, which also proved to be helpful in dating layers on excavation sites. His work Meisterwerke der griechischen Plastik (1893) is still considered a standardwork on antique Greek art. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE LXXXI.
