- Central vertical fold strengthened on verso; a few closed sm. tears; a tiny hole below Christ.

= Impressive drawing, copy after a print by H. Goltzius (1583). Cf. Hirschmann, p.129, describing this drawing in the auction of P. Langenhuizen. Provenance: collection Pieter Langenhuizen (1919), Egbert de Langen (1919), C.L. Dake (1921), Bernard Houthakker (1921) and lastly the collection Toussaint (1972). According to the RKD the artist is perhaps the son of the artist Herman Bräckerveld. With an unidentified collector's stamp on verso. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE LXXXVI.

= Provenance: Unicorno collection. With an unidentified collector's mark and a modern attribution in pencil on verso. "De niet gesigneerde tekening is op stilistische gronden aan Castiglione toe te schrijven. Zo treffen we eenzelfde wijze van arceren, met snelle, krachtige, grote halen, op andere tekeningen van hem aan. Ook de donkere, krasserige vlakken die schaduwpartijen moeten aanduiden, keren op composities van Castiglione terug. Tenslotte is er verwantschap tussen de gezichten van de sater en beide nimfen met die op een paar andere bladen van de kunstenaar." (C. Dumas, Grenzeloos goed. = From the Unicorno collection. "The docks of London (...) caught Cossaar's attention. In an interview he spoke about his fascination for the tall ships, which he loved to watch after the rain, their sails drying against a clear blue sky. (...) An English critic characterised one of Cossaar's harbour views as 'full of sunshine and white sails set against a delicately blue sky, with wisps of cloud tempering its radiance'. Interestingly enough, this also applies to these two watercolours" (Sotheby's, The Unicorno Collection, Amst., 2004).

= Provenance: Unicorno collection. The title and signature are later additions by another: "Cossaar was aan het begin van de twintigste eeuw bevriend met Kees van Dongen. (...) De twee hier getoonde, vaardige aquarellen naar zeilschepen in een haven zijn op basis van de signatuur lang als vroeg werk van Van Dongen beschouwd, maar zijn bij nader inzien aan J.C.W.
