= "Plakboek van Adrienne des Tombe gekregen van Papa 2 Maart 1883. Arnhem". 'Jonkvrouw' Adrienne des Tombe (1867-1955) had a penchant for fashion, a fine sense of humour and an eye for composition. In this scrapbook, filled with innumerable scraps of various (and mainly 'the usual') nature and including many fashion magazine clippings, we see hidden little jokes in the configuration and interaction of the completely unrelated scraps, such as two small caricatural potbellied men standing on a much larger fashionable lady's behind and skirt's hem, an image of Little Red Riding Hood's wolf dressed as the grandmother eating a parrot, an elegant lady with the head of a handsome gentleman, a little girl offering a cup of Suchard's 'Cacao soluble' to two drunken men, a horseman jumping over a seated man absorbed in thought, a lady from a fashion magazine riding a reproduction of a painted donkey, and flowers and a man's head coming out of two hunters' rifles. The album also includes some advertorial scraps (i.a. for Kwatta's Cacao and Pears' Soap), some plates from series issued by Nestlé, Maison de la Belle Jardinière and Au Bon Marché, (newspaper) clippings concerning the coronation of Wilhelmina in 1898, and a loosely inserted bookmarker w. chromolithogr. plate and embroidered date "18 10/9 66".
