= Van der Linde 3038. Contains i.a. a chapter on the Automaton Chess Player designed by Wolfgang von Kempelen. Known popularly as "The Turk", von Kempelen's machine was in fact an elaborate hoax: a real chess player hidden inside the cabinet operated the machine, giving the impression the mechanical doll in Turkish clothes seated behind the cabinet was actually playing a game of chess against a human opponent.
