= Unique collection of photographs (with captions in pen and ink in Indonesian and letterpress captions in Chinese) showing sections of the former railway in Southern China connecting Swatow (Shantou) with Chao Chow (Chaozho) during its construction and completion in 1906. The album opens with a portrait of philanthropist Tjong Yong Hian (1850-1911), who invested large sums of money to make the construction possible. Hence the calligraphed caption: 'Managing Director General. Presented by Tjong Yong Hian. Swatow 25th November 1906.' The larger part of the album depicts Swatow and its surroundings, i.a. the harbour, the station, newly built bridges, a locomotive with open boxcars and another one with carriages and people posing. The other views are impressions of Chao Chow (the caption reads 'Teotjoe'), incl. the station and a bridge under construction crossing the Han River. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE LXVII.
