= The earliest publication on her Nile expedition, made together with her mother and aunt by the young Dutch female traveller Alexandrine Piternella Françoise Tinne (1835-1869). "Avant 1850, le pays des Niam-Niam n'était connu que de nom; (...) Miss Alexina Tinné, qui a pénétré en 1863 jusqu'a Kosango, sur la frontière des Niam-Niam, n'a pu aller plus loin, bien qu'elle eût une invitation en forme du roi Monfiou." (Gay 2178). "Holländische Afrika-Reisende extravaganter Prägung. Erbin eines bedeutenden Vermögens, dem europäischen Getriebe überdrüssig, von Liebes- und Fernweh erfüllt." (Henze V, p.328). Tinne was murdered while on expedition across the Sahara in 1869.

= This imposing figure represents the hero Chibinda Ilunga, royal ancestor of the Chokwe people. He introduced into that tribe the concept of divine kingship and also taught the Lunda the art of hunting. The figure of Chibinda Ilunga came to represent the archetypal chief who maintains the well-being of his people, and he also served as a role model for men in Chokwe society.
