= Oeuvre catalogue. Author's copy: "Tirage special pour l'auteur" with 12 extra etched plates loosely inserted. A rare 5th volume was also published, with the 'pornographic' work of Rops, which was censured in France, but printed in Belgium. It is not present in this lot, but perhaps the loose plates, all of erotic nature, in the portfolio are from that work.

= A unique copy with 17 extra contributions: small etchings, woodengravings, announcement for this publication and a manuscript letter, AUTOGRAPH SIGNED by Rops to NYS (his printer). I.a. the complete etching Planche de quatres peintres (Rouir 816, with the address and Delteil (Daumier) 3955). This etching was jointly created by H. DAUMIER (his only etching), H. HARPIGNIES, F. ROPS and A. TAIÉE during a dinner in 1871 at the house of a mutual friend. Nys cut the contribution by Rops from the copper plate and printed the two heads together (on verso title) and seperated the two heads and printed them separately on one leaf (after p. 183), solely for the first owner of this work and collector H. Saffrey. Contributions i.a. by J.-K. Huymans, C. Lemonnier, O. Uzanne, O. Mirbeau, J. Péladan and E. Verhaeren.

Paris/ Brussels, Conquet/ Deman/ Floury, 1887/ 1893/ 1895, 3 vols., XXVIII,429,(2); (4),18; (6),XII,171,(1)p., etched frontisp., plates and orig. frontwr. by/ after F. ROPS, ills. i.a. after A. = Three UNIQUE copies compiled by collector H. SAFFREY with more than 40 EXTRA prints (mostly etchings and woodengravings), for the greater part printed on the textleaves and a few manuscript documents by and on the artist. The prints were probably provided by H. NYS (the artist's printer) for Saffrey. The following etched/ helio-engr. prints can be found, all but a few printed in all three volumes: Planche de quatres peintres ((Rouir 816, with the address; Delteil (Daumier) 3955). This etching was created by H. Daumier (his only etching), H. Harpignies, Rops and A. Taiée during a dinner in 1871 at the house of a mutual friend. Nys or Saffrey cut the contribution by Rops from the original copper plate and printed the two heads as one plate and cut the plate again to separate the two heads and printed them separately. These printings from the cut plate are probably unique and only printed in this copy and in lot no. (Rouir found an etching, printed with the other part of the cut up plate, without the Rops contribution). The extra prints: Le Cochon nimbé III (R. 291.1); Flirt (R.298.2); Le Dindon (R.310.2); Le Jockey I (R.364, variant pure helio-engr. w. scratches (not in Rouir?); La Presse (R.365.5. with AUTOGRAPH SIGNED DEDICATION by Nys to Saffrey); La Laitiere Flamande (R.733.3); Sirène à l'affut (R.961.3), 4 different woodengr. head- and tailpieces (Ramiro 653, 654, 655 and 656) and 10 photo-engr. plates on Chinese from E. DEMOLDER, Felicien Rops Étude patronomique (1894). Also two manuscript letters, AUTOGRAPH SIGNED by Rops (i.a. to Nys) and a small list with comments by the artist, a manuscript letter by C. Vos (art dealer) to Saffrey. Also a few prints after Rops (i.a. an invitation to the Salon de la Plume by A. Rassenfosse), Ecchymoses II (Ramiro 657) and a wrapper of La Plume (dedicated to Rops). SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE XXII.

AND 16 etchings by/ after ROPS, published in Le Artiste, all loosely inserted.
