The Japanese postcards show temples, castles, shrines, the Grand Hotel Yokohama (6x), women (±40x, partly courtisans, partly in their daily work) and a series of 12 postcards showing the various stages of a Japanese marriage ceremony and the period after childbirth.

= Rare set of picture postcards that were published by Meulenhoff (Amsterdam) on occasion of Alfred Dreyfus' departure from l'Ile du Diable on the 9th of June 1899, for his retrial in France. The three postcards all have a letterpress line printed in red on the address side reading: "Refusée par la poste française." It seems that these cards were published in the Netherlands in protest against the treatment of Dreyfus; two of the three postcards have a letterpress line on the frontside reading: "Cayenne, date du départ de Dreyfus." They show the following scenes: 1.Two sketches "dessiné à l'Ile du Diable le 29. 7bre 1898 Jean Hess" of the "poste des gardiens" and "La prison derrière la palinade"; 2. The portraits of Emile Zola, G. Pecquart and Labori; 3. A portrait of Dreyfus, and facsimiles of the handwriting of Dreyfus, the handwriting that was used as proof of Dreyfus' guilt and Dreyfus' signature. Very rare set of postcards.
