= Comprises i.a. the ports of Languedoc, Marseille and Toulon. Under the title "peintre des marines de sa majesté", Vernet was commissioned by Louis XV in 1753 to paint fifteen views of the main ports of France. At that time the country was at war with England, and Louis specifically requested that the artist show off the economic activities and maritime strength of France. This rare series of engravings was created after those paintings. Despite its incompleteness, a desirable set.
