= Rare large lot of this very important and highly esteemed annual, based on eye-witness accounts, and giving a wealth of information on the Netherlands and its colonies, Europe, Asia and America. The printer and publisher P. Casteleyn was the founder of the oldest (and still existing) Dutch newspaper, the "Oprechte Haarlemsche Courant" (1656). See at large: G. Verhoeven and S. van der Veen, De Hollandse Mercurius (Haarlem, 2011). The series was continued under the title "Europeesche Mercurius" by T. ten Hoorn from 1691 onwards. Landwehr, R. de Hooghe 8: "As of the 20th volume, published in 1670, De Hooghe has designed for each yearly volume an allegorical frontispiece, except 1677 thus a total of 21 frontispieces (...)." R. de Hooghe also contributed 24 plates, views and portraits between 1674 and 1691.
