Schrift vervattende alle de Canonyke Boeken des Ouden en Nieuwen Testaments. Dordr./ Amst., H. Brandt, D. onder de Linden a.o., 1776-1788, 4 parts in 1 vol., handcol. engr. title-p. and 40 handcol. plates, 12mo.

- Velvet completely worn away (sm. remnants only visible at foot of spine) and underlying cl. w. damaged spots; joint split. The goldwork in splendid condition, without any significant wear.

= A remarkably fine example of luxurious eighteenth century gold bookdecoration by the Amsterdam(?) goldsmith Johannes van Leuven (1737-1782), with his hallmark and yearmark 1761. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE XCIX.

= Nice binding, without hallmarks. The text on the central medallions reading "Aus wahrer Lieb kombt dieser Trieb" (frontcover) and "Nur dise bahn führt Himmel an" (backcover); the images i.a. showing Christian symbols. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE XCIX.

- Both covers w. dam. spots from acid-biting (sl. affecting gilt border and central ornament); spine-ends and 1 corner restored w. leather. Owner's entry and stamp on first free endpaper. Nevertheless a desirable copy in a rare and remarkable binding.

= Large paper copy. Storm van Leeuwen (IIA, p.448) mentions a copy of the same work with ident. binding (C 1245/ fig. 182) that "may have been a present given by the authorities of the island of Voorne, bound by order of the publisher, Pieter van Waesberge."
