= Hendrik Algra (1896-1982) became known in the sixties as the man who accused Gerard Reve of blasphemy. It was however not Algra, but SGP politician C.N. van Dis who on 25 February 1966 asked parliamentary questions about the insult to religious feelings, which Reve allegedly gave rise to by portraying God as a donkey with whom he made love. Algra did oppose the granting of government subsidies to Reve and would side with Van Dis, but he was not the first to formulate the complaint. He owed his national fame in this case to Reve, who named his house in Greonterp, Friesland, after him. Huize Algra became a household name for Revists, although it is often forgotten that Reve, after initially being terribly angry about Algra, later became more lenient about the anti-revolutionary politician and even saw him as an ally in the fight against communism. In this letter Algra extensively explains his position and opinion and reflects on various aspects (i.a. homosexuality and religion) of Reve's literary work. "(...) In elk geval moet ik U mijn compliment maken, dat U verdraaid goed hebt begrepen, dat het mij niet gaat om brandstapels of om het verbieden van boeken. Het gaat mij van meet af om het Regeringsbeleid. Als de Regering besluit, bepaalde kunstuitingen en -richtingen te stimuleren met geld uit de staatskas, dan moet zij kunnen verantwoorden, wat de normen zijn bij haar selectie. (...) Een reeks van 'bekentenissen', reportages van zuippartijen en erotische genietingen, voor een deel bovendien naar mijn vaste overtuiging althans voor het grootste deel ontsproten aan een onreine fantasie en nooit werkelijk zo beleefd, worden nooit tot een hoge creatieve kunst, ook niet, als deze fantasieën bedoeld zijn, mede bedoeld als symboliek (...)".

= Draft of a letter to the Minister of Culture [Mr H.W. van Doorn] in which Carmiggelt asks to grant Reve a Royal Award on occasion of his coming 50th birthday. "(...) Naar ik hoorde is de toekenning van een Koninklijke onderscheiding aan G.K. van het Reve al enige tijd in overweging. Tevens vernam ik dat bij de besluitvorming daarover het van enig nut zou kunnen zijn als een collega-auteur zijn instemming met het toekennen van die onderscheiding zou betuigen. Daarom schrijf ik U, Excellentie, deze brief. (...) ik verklaar dat ik Van het Reve beschouw als de grootste nu levende schrijver van ons land. (...) Zijn denkbeelden en de manier waarop hij gewoon is ze onder woorden te brengen zijn van een zo grote oorspronkelijkheid dat zowel de hoogste verering als de diepste verguizing zijn deel zijn. (...) Ik ken Van het Reve al zeer lang en ik ben er getuige van geweest dat hij, tijdens de bezetting, het verzet heeft gediend! (...)'.
