= Interesting letter in which Brouwers lays out his grievances with De Arbeiderspers, as a result of the course of events concerning "Een papieren leven" (never published). Brouwers is very annoyed with the pressure put on him by his publisher and the lack of cooperation. "(...) het moet binnen één maand af: een boek van wablief 226 bladzijden (...) Welnu, dat krijg ik niet meer vóór 1 november uit mijn poten. (...) Voor mij hóeft dat "Papieren leven" oftewel "Brouwersboek" niet meer. Jammer van het voortreffelijke idee, jammer van de vergooide, voorbije, niet meer in te halen tijd. Dat boek zou er hebben kunnen zijn geweest, als men, - ik zeg het voor de zóveelste keer -, naar mij had geluisterd toen ik de moeilijkheden al zag áánkomen. Vol verbittering wijt ik e.e.a. - voor de zoveelste keer - aan de nonchalance van de Arbeiderspers, mijn uitgever sedert een jaar of vijftien, van welk bedrijf de telefoniste mij steevast nog altijd "meneer Brouwer" noemt en vraagt of ze mijn telefoonnummer mag noteren. (...). Nu ik toch vijftig word, en eindelijk een grote jongen, waarom zou ik na ál die jaren van gezeik en gesappel niet gewoon weggaan van de Arbeiderspers, kàppen met die hap. Ik ben het: beu! (...) Die Arbeiderspers, ware het mijn echtgenote, hadde ik haar al lang met een bijl vermoord. Ik kàn niet meer, ik wil niet meer, ik trek de deur achter me dicht, ik zoek mijn warmte wel elders, eventueel."
