Petersen/ Brattinga p.17; Petersen p.17: "(...) Hj maakte (...) kennis met de nieuwe, opzienbarende beeldstatistiek van Otto Neurath, die hij uitvoerig bestudeerde. Daarin, meer dan in het vrije kunstenaarschap, zag hij een zinvolle mogelijkheid voor zijn eigen beeldende capacitetien. Immers, de beeldstatistiek tracht het exact wetenschappelijke te paren aan het bezielende der kunst en de heldere eenvoud van deze beide in zich te vereenigen, zoals hij schreef in de brochure Het verleden in Egyptische reliëfs, het heden in statistiek en beeld [sic], die hij in 1929 uitgaf en waarmee hij zichzelf introduceerde als ontwerper van beeldstatistiek (...)".
