Davies' The Lovers' Song-book (ibid., idem, 1993, 18,(2)p., printed in black and red in 350 numb. copies (50), orig. wr., narrow folio). "Gertrude Hermes [1901-1983] made her first wood engravings in 1922 and soon established herself as one of the leading British wood engravers of the time. In 1930 her husband, Blair Hughes-Stanton, was appointed resident artist at the Gregynog Press and the family moved to Wales in the autumn of that year. (...). Hermes made only six engravings for a Gregynog edition of The Natural History of Selborne, which in the end was never published, and she had left Gregynog by March 1932. The first book on which Hughes-Stanton worked was a collection of thirty poems by W. H. Davies called The Lover's Song-book. This book was printed but again it was never published. In 1933 the Press commissioned Gertrude Hermes to illustrate the same volume and she made ten engravings which were met with a mixed response and once again the Directors of the Press resolved not to use them. Now, for the first time, this important group of engravings is published in a limited edition (...)" [introd.]. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE XLIV.
