General Smuts inspecting his troops, H.M. the King inspecting war booty, soldiers digging and restoring trenches, ruins of towns taken by the English (i.a. Athie, Boisleux au Mont, Courcelles, Peronne, Tilloy, Ypres), scenes of the front from the Aisne and Marne, burial scenes, crashed zeppelins, scenes aboard allied ships and in general the incredible devastation of the towns and villages on the Western front. AND 2 other Japanese lacquer albums, late 19th-early 20th cent., both lacking bookblock, (three-dimensional) red and black lacquer (and inlaid mother of pearl elements) w. gold details, 1x depicting cranes and bamboo by a stream w. a boulder on the frontcover and insects and flowers on the backcover, 1x depicting herons in a stream w. lotus on the frontcover and an iris w. butterflies on the backcover (both sl. chipped along edges and one lacking a narrow portion of wood along the edge).
