Bengesco 478 and p.126: "On a voulu, dans ces derniers temps, que la véritable édition originale de la Pucelle fût l'édition qui se compose d'un faux titre (...) et de 161pp., s.l.n.d. (...). Pourtant il résulte et de la correspondance de Voltaire, et d'une lettre de M. de Saint-Sauveur (...), que la Pucelle fut d'abord imprimée à Francfort, "quoique supposée à Louvain". Et Voltaire, dans sa lettre à l'Académie française (novembre 1755), emploiera les mêmes expressions: "Ce poème a été d'abord imprimé à Francfort, quoiqu'il soit annoncé de Louvain." C'est donc l'une des deux éditions portant l'adresse de Louvain qui doit être considérée comme l'édition princeps de la Pucelle d'Orléans." Bengesco distinguishes two variant 1755 éditions with the Louvain imprint: édition A (8vo) and édition B (12mo), with several small differences. Our copy is édition A. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE CIII.
