II and III, dealing with gallinaceous birds, Temminck had had 160 figures made by Prêtre. It was his intention to publish these together with the text in folio-format as a sequal to his work on pigeons; but on account of the controversy with Mme Knip Temminck decided to issue the work in the present smaller format".
