= J.C. Bloem mentions in the typescript letter that "Botter" is one of his oldest friends. In the friendly inquiring and congratulatory letter written during WOII Bloem expresses the hope that the rumor about the German defeat is true: "Sindsdien is er toch enorm veel gebeurd en schijnt de verwachting gerechtigd, dat Duitschland aan het eind van dit jaar verslagen zal zijn. Wat zal dat een opluchting wezen! men kan het zich haast niet indenken. (...) Ik heb Wim [= his son] n.l. donderdag naar Claartje [= Clara Eggink] gebracht: ik wilde hem tegenwoordig n.l. niet graag alleen laten reizen, met die jacht op jongens. Weliswaar is hij nog geen 17, maar hij is erg groot voor zijn leeftijd (...) De champagne heb ik nog bewaard om op de nederlaag van Duitschland te ledigen".
