Hooftprijs, dus onder omstandigheiden waarbij het slachtoffer vrijwel doof en blind de gang van zaken over zich heen laat gaan. Wel heb ik nog één visuele herinnering: Henk v. Ulsen, die rechtop staande voor zich uit keek in de verte, in uiterste ernst en concentratie, ja met een zekere vertwijfeling, zodat ik dacht: zo erg kan ik het nooit bedoeld hebben. Wat de voordracht van mij eigen verzen door van Ulsen betreft: ik kan precies zeggen wat ik hierbij gevoel: hier is de kunstenaar Van Ulsen aan het woord, die verzen van Ida Gerhardt voordraagt, - maar niet Ida Gerhardt die door Van Ulsen wordt voorgedragen.
