79/ 268 [Futurism]. Lacerba. Year 1-3. Ed. P. Papini and A. Soffici. Florence, n.publ., 1913-1915, 69 parts in 2 vols., 296,(7); 336,(7),(1 blank), 168p., ills., contemp./ sl. later hcl. w. (diff.) dec. paper over covers, folio.

- Five issues w. some underlining in pen and red ink; some sl. occas. foxing (mainly in issues of year 3). Title written on backstrips. A fine set.

= Rare, complete set of this Italian literary periodical, associated with the futurist movement. Contains texts by i.a. Agnoletti, Apollinaire, Boccioni, Campigli, Carrà, Cesari, Folgore, Gerebzova, R. de Gourmont, Max Jacob, Laforgue, Lichtenberg, Mallarmé, Marinetti, Papini, Pucci, Soffici, Tavolato and Ungaretti, and illustrations by i.a. Archipenko, Férat, Gerebzova, Larionow, Picasso, Severini, Soffici and Zannini.

The decorated papers on the bindings, with a pattern of daisies (vol. 1) and a pattern of coloured circles (vol. 2), were most probably designed and produced by ARGENDO SOFFICI, making this the only copy of Lacerba known to exist with these bindings. A report by the art-historian Maurizio Fagiolo dell'Arco (1939-2002) is included in the lot, in which he lists the rare copies of futuristic books featuring stencilled papers created by Soffici, who had the project of creating sober bindings with papers with often "orphic" motifs. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE XVII.

= Salaris, Bibliografia del Futurismo p.48; Hulten, Futurism & Futurisms p.514: "With his "explosive novel" 8 Anime in una bomba (8 Souls in a Bomb, 1919), Marinetti used his own free-word theory for a more complex literary composition. He was now able to accept what he had earlier rejected: sentimental and narrative contents, psychology, and a swift, springy syntax that allows for metaphors, analogies, colours - here Marinetti's poetic inspiration reaches its highest peak." With AUTOGRAPH SIGNED DEDICATION on first blank: "a Decima[?] De Angelis/ con viva/ simpatia/ F.T. Marinetti/ Corso Venezia 61/ Milano".
