Pannekoek, De verluchting van het boek, p.36/41: "Henricus had vroeger reeds voor de na-dichtingen van Pol de Mont - te vinden in zijn Iris - op het Halewine-motief twee potloodteekeningen gemaakt. Deze Halewine-historie heeft hem blijkbaar niet meer losgelaten en twee volle jaren heeft hij aan dit kolossale boek gewerkt, dat uit 25 groote bladen bestaat. Nog herinner ik mij den indruk, die de prenten allerwege hebben gemaakt, toen ze in den Haagschen Kunstkring geëxposeerd waren (...). Ze hebben dezelfde qualiteiten, die zijn andere illustraties hebben. Henricus teekende makkelijk, wat hem soms parten heeft gespeeld, maar aan dit werk heeft hij met veel liefde gearbeid en elk detail verzorgd.
