78/2885 [Utrecht]. Specht, C. (act. 1657-1708). "De Ridder-matige Huysen en Gesichten in de Provincie van Utrecht." Utr., the artist, 1703, engr. title-p. and 39 views by/ after i.a. J. VAN VIANEN and D. STOPENDAAL, each ±14,5 x21 cm., bound together in early 20th cent. hvellum w. sm. gilt freemason inspired collector's mark (?) on frontcover, obl. 4to.

- A few prints (sl.) foxed in blank margins; the view of Montfoort has a sm. ruststain in the sky area; title-p. and the view of Wyck by Duerstede have an extended blank outer margin. Otherwise all views fine.

= All but 8 of the views have the name of Casper Specht engraved in lower margin. Very rare complete series, of which the first edition, printed in 1698, consisted of 32 prints, each w. a banderole in the top margin identifying the house; a second edition was published by I. Ottens around 1700, and contained another 11 prints (partly also with a banderole above the house). Our copy was the third and most extensive edition w. 40 plates (incl. the title-p.). The only etching listed in Hollstein as etched by Specht is the one that show the house Plettenburg at Jutphaes. See Hollstein, Specht 1, 1st state (of 2). The collector's(?) mark on the frontcover of the album not traced in Lugt.
