= Van der Linde 24. The final Dutch edition of the author's main work. Bekker (1634-1698) attempted to prove that the devil is unable to exercise any influence upon the destiny of mankind. Consequently all stories about sorcery, witchcraft, ghosts and phantoms belong to the realm of fancy. The work caused a great stir and was deemed heretical by orthodox Calvinists.
